OAK PARK — Families in need in Metro Detroit will benefit from a record donation of 7.4 tons of frozen poultry from Miller Amish Country Poultry, and a $50,000 from The Kroger Co. of Michigan to Forgotten Harvest.

“We thank Miller Amish Country Poultry for its ongoing commitment to help relieve hunger in the Metro Detroit area,” says Jayne Homco, Michigan Kroger president. “The company has donated chicken to Forgotten Harvest for more than ten years. We also thank our Kroger customers and associates who demonstrated their generosity by making contributions during our recent fundraising efforts.”

According to Homco, the donated chicken is enough for 44,400 meal portions. The check from Kroger will assist Forgotten Harvest this winter in providing food to needy individuals and families in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.

“Kroger, its customers and associates are committed partners dedicated to continually tackling the issue of hunger in Metro Detroit,” says Kirk Mayes, chief executive officer, Forgotten Harvest. “Miller Amish Country Poultry has likewise demonstrated its concern for those in need of food in Detroit. The company’s donation of delicious and nutritious chicken will help boost the protein level in our clients’ diets.”

Eighty-one Kroger stores in the Detroit tri-county area support Forgotten Harvest through food and monetary contributions. Kroger is on pace to donate 3.2 million pounds of fresh merchandise to Forgotten Harvest during 2014.
