DETROIT—The Kresge Foundation recently approved a $250,000 grant to the Presbyterian Villages of Michigan Foundation in support of the development of Hartford Village in northwest Detroit.

Hartford Village is a new senior housing community to be built at Meyers Road between Six and Seven Mile roads, just south of the Northwest Activities Center. It is a non-profit based collaboration between Hartford Memorial Baptist Church and Presbyterian Villages of Michigan. In addition to providing much-needed new housing for seniors in Detroit, Hartford Village will serve as a catalyst for increased community and economic development in the surrounding neighborhood. Construction is expected to begin next spring 2015

“The Kresge Foundation and its partners are helping build green, healthy, active neighborhoods throughout the city. A revitalized McNichols Corridor moves us closer to that goal,” said Laura J. Trudeau, managing director of the Kresge Foundation’s Detroit Program.

Trudeau said this development adds to the broad revitalization efforts throughout the McNichols Corridor, which includes nearby anchor institutions, Sinai-Grace Hospital and Marygrove College.
