DEARBORN — The Oakwood Center for Exceptional Families was recently the focus of an event to inspire and educate various benefactors and community members.

The “Good Food, Good Wine, Good Friends and a Good Cause” event showcased the uniqueness of the center and its mission to provide fully integrated and comprehensive family-centered care for children with special needs under one roof. Hosted by Gary and Debbie Stanford, the event, attended by more than 70 guests, was held at the Les Stanford Cadillac Showroom in Dearborn.

In addition, the event was also highlighted the partnership between Oakwood and the University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Education and the Early Childhood Education Center whose primary goal is working together to change the model of medical care and education for children with special needs.

“The evening was really all about hope,” said Gary Stanford, vice president and owner of Les Stanford Cadillac. “Hope for the children who deserve the best life possible, hope for their siblings and for their parents.”

The Center for Exceptional Families provides specialized care for more than 4,500 children with special needs and their families and is supported entirely by philanthropic funding.

The Stanfords are longtime supporters of the center and serve on a committee to help secure endowments to fund the program’s long term goals. In addition to Oakwood administrative and medical leadership, the event was attended by members of the business and charitable communities from across southeast Michigan.
