BIRMINGHAM — Lighthouse of Oakland County will host its annual Lighting the Way for the Holidays party — kicking off the agency’s holiday fundraising and programs providing a happier holiday for more than 800 families. This event will take place from 5:30-8:30p.m., Nov. 10 at the Townsend Hotel — an international cusine and cocktails wil be served.

The Decorating Duel — the Ultimate Flock-Off! begins with the “Big Reveal” of the battle’s secret ornamentation. The competition between top-tier designers David McKnight of Emerald City Designs and Jon Gerych of Gerych’s Flowers & Gifts will engage guests with its action-packed contest of creativity. Gerych and McKnight will each embellish a trim-less tree utilizing decorations that embrace the theme of Sustainability, a key focus of Lighthouse’s mission. The pair will go head-to-head in the inaugural duel for bragging rights and the title: The Ultimate Flocker! — Partygoers will have a chance to vote for their favorite with the designer holding the most votes earning the 2013 Decorating Duel Fan Favorite title.

Fox 2 Anchor Huel Perkins serves as moderator alongside Detroit News Columnist and Duel Color Commentator Neal Rubin. The Ultimate Flocker! will be determined by a panel of celebrity judges and immediately after announcing the winner, both trees will be auctioned off live to the highest bidder.

“This event provides essential funding for Lighthouse of Oakland County’s supportive programs – hundreds of families will also receive holiday gifts and meals,” states Priscilla Perkins, LOC Chief Development Officer. “We are looking forward to a fabulous event thanks to the support of our sponsors, board and committee members and of course, the community. It’s going to be a great night!”

Tickets are $125 and $225 for benefactors. The music of the evening will be provided by Michigan-based artist Tola Lewis. Valet parking will be provided.
