Baker Tilly Continues to Expand Resources

Southfield, MI — Accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly continues to expand the resources and capabilities available to its clients with the recent addition of six staff members to the Detroit office.

Managing Partner Alan Whitman said Baker Tilly’s number one priority is client service and the firm will continue to meet the ever-changing needs of the business community in Michigan by expanding its team of industry and service specialists.

Mary Treder Lang, CPA, joins the firm as a director who will use her deep connections in the community to help Baker Tilly deliver valued business advice to companies in metro Detroit. Treder Lang’s understanding of the marketplace and experience working in a number of industries will be instrumental as Baker Tilly continues its commitment to support the growth and development of Michigan and its economy. She spent much of her career in marketing and business development management and most recently owned her own consulting practice. She also has served as business development manager at Accretive Solutions and Siemens Building Technologies.

Governor Rick Snyder recently appointed Treder Lang to sit on a 16-member Blue Ribbon Panel on State Parks and Outdoor Recreation, where she will help create a vision and strategy that will prepare the State’s parks and recreation areas for future generations.

Treder Lang earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and marketing from the University of Dayton in Ohio and is the first female Commodore of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. She is also a board member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), serving on several committees including the Michigan Turnaround Task Force and the Navy Tax Return Committee.

Eunice Yuan, senior tax accountant, specializes in serving both individual and business clients in a wide range of industries. She has more than eight years experience in public accounting and received a master’s degree in accountancy from Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business. Yuan is fluent in both Mandarin and French, and is a member of the Detroit Chinese Business Association.

Gary Sommer, CPA, is a manager with more than 12 years of experience providing audit, tax, and consulting services to privately-held companies. He specializes in serving the manufacturing, retail, and oilfield services industries, and most recently spent four years at a middle-market firm in Houston, Texas. Sommer earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University, and a master’s degree in accountancy and Masters of Business Administration from Walsh College.

Donald Price, senior analyst, has more than seven years of experience providing business valuation and litigation advisory services to attorneys and clients. He will use his expertise to help Baker Tilly’s growing forensic, valuation, and litigation support practice by assisting clients in commercial litigation, marital dissolution, acquisitions, financial reporting, gift and estate taxation, purchase price allocation, shareholder disputes, and other litigated and non-litigated matters.

Price holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oakland University. He is a member of the MACPA’s New Professionals Task Force, the Risk Management Association, and the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metro Detroit.

Saro Sevugan, senior associate, specializes in tax compliance and planning related to federal and state taxation. Prior to joining Baker Tilly, she spent a number of years working in the tax practice of a national firm. Sevugan is also experienced in reading and writing the Hindi language. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Madras in India, and a Master of Science in Business Administration from Loyola Institute of Business Administration in India.

Rebecca Porritt, PHR, joins Baker Tilly as the regional human resource manager. Her 12 years of human resources and recruiting experience will be vital as the firm continues to grow and engage new talent. Porritt most recently worked as a senior HR generalist at Belfor. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan Flint, and a Master of Business Administration from Walsh College.
