JINGLE JOBS PUT “JINGLE” BACK IN WORKER’S POCKETS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Company’s goal is to put 30 people back to work between now and December 30

TROY, MI — In October the national unemployment rate rose to 10.2 %, the highest since April 1983. Michigan’s unemployment rate as of October was 15.1% and retailers across the country plan to do less holiday hiring this year. Daunting figures, but one Troy-based company has good news – There are jobs out there.

Diversified Industrial Staffing has created an innovative new program called Jingle Jobs and the goal is to put 30 people back to work by December 30.

“The economy hasn’t been so great and we know that there are a lot of people struggling out there, but the good news is, there are jobs available,” says Todd Palmer, owner of Diversified. “85% of jobs are never publicly posted due to employers offering to promote or hire from within first.

“Our mission is to Improve Lives. Employers from around the country come to us to find the right candidate for an open position. Because we are a candidate-centric staffing firm, there is no charge to the person looking for work – the employer pays the fee. It has always meant a great deal to the entire staff here to see someone go back to work, especially around the holidays, so that is how we came up with the goal of Jingle Jobs.

Palmer says that there are four key mistakes people make when applying for a job:

  • Only applying for jobs that are advertised
  • Spelling errors on resumes
  • Blindly applying for EVERY job you see no matter if you are qualified or not
  • Not doing a follow up on a resume or application.

“When you are unemployed you still have a 40 hour a week job, and that is to find a job!” says Palmer. “I am always amazed at the amount of unemployed people who only send one resume and then never following it up.”
