DETROIT, November 30, 2009 – Founders Junior Council (FJC), a young professionals auxiliary of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), and the American Institute of Architects’ Emerging Professionals Committee are hosting an exclusive ARTSeen event on Thursday, December 10 at the DIA from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, celebrating the exhibition Avedon Fashion Photographs 1944-2000.

ArtSeen is one of the most recognized series of events for the FJC and more than 200 guests are expected to attend the reception benefiting the DIA.

“ArtSeen events have become some of the areas most anticipated social events and provide a wonderful opportunity to showcase arts and culture in the city of Detroit,” stated Nicole Wagner, FJC president. “We are excited for the opportunity to partner with the American Institute of Architects’ Emerging Professionals Committee and we expect a great turnout, which will help FJC continue to support the DIA’s exhibitions, educational programs, and magnificent collections.”

ArtSeen attendees will groove to music provided by renowned DJ/producer from Miami, DJ A.D. Cruze, and local musician Ben Sharkey as well as savor delicacies and wonderful signature cocktails during the evening. Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to view the Avedon exhibition during this semi-private event.

Richard Avedon (1923–2004) revolutionized fashion photography starting in the post-World War II era and redefined the role of the fashion photographer. Anticipating many of the cultural cross-fertilizations that have occurred between high art, commercial art, fashion, advertising, and pop culture in the last 20 years, he created spirited, imaginative photographs that showed fashion and the modern man and woman in a new light.

This exhibition is the most comprehensive exploration to date of Avedon’s fashion photography during his long career at Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, The New Yorker, and beyond. The collection features over 100 works, spanning Avedon’s entire career, and includes vintage and edition prints, contact sheets, and original magazines.

Tickets for ArtSeen are $40 in advance and are available at www.foundersjuniorcouncil.org or by calling (313) 833-4005. Valet parking is available at a reduced rate. Event sponsors and partners include HOUR Media, Real Detroit Weekly, Patron, Dolce Moda boutique and Kevan Bowers Photography.

For more than three-decades, FJC has been committed to inspiring new generations of art-lovers to show their support for the DIA, one of North America’s leading art museums. By bringing together young professionals, all with a shared interest in promoting the arts, FJC has been credited with hosting some of Detroit’s premier social events while encouraging life-long participation at DIA.
