Beaumont Nurses Earn Nightingale Awards

Three Beaumont Health nurses won top honors at the Oakland University School of Nursing and Board of Visitors' 28th annual Nightingale Awards for Nursing.

The awards celebrate the contributions of registered nurses with winners selected through nominations by peers, supervisors, friends or patients for nursing excellence in one of nine areas of specialty. Award winners receive a $1,000 cash award, a solid bronze Nightingale statue and a Nightingale pin.

The 2016 Beaumont Health Nightingale Award winners are:

Michelle Boiani, of Macomb Township, an administrative nurse manager, neuroscience at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, was honored in the new category, emerging leader. She started her career as a staff nurse in neuroprogressive, medical surgery where she was promoted to associate nurse manager and later interim administrative manager. 

Boiani earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oakland University.

Dawn Nieman, of Hartland, is director of nursing, staffing solutions and central staffing at Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn. She was honored in the category of executive administration.

She started her career as a charge nurse in the emergency department at St. Mary Hospital in Livonia, before moving to  St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti. She joined Progressive Nursing Staffers in Detroit as a nurse recruiter, and then was a nurse recruiter for Oakwood Staffing Solutions.

Nieman earned her Associates of Applied Science in Nursing at Schoolcraft College and her Bachelor of Science from the University of Detroit.

Lisa Muma, of Troy, is a pediatric oncology nurse in the pediatric oncology, long term follow-up clinic at  Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was honored in the category of staff nurse practice.

She started her career as a staff nurse in general surgery before working as a staff nurse in discharge planning. She also worked as a nurse clinician in pediatric hematology oncology.

Muma earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit.
