Whitney Gardens to Open for Summer Season

DETROIT — The Whitney Gardens will open Tuesday for the spring-summer season and will host its first garden party on May 28.

“Midtown is bursting with life and The Whitney is at the heart of it all,” says The Whitney’s owner, Bud Liebler. “Woodward Avenue is under construction for the M-1 line but it’s open to traffic and we have plenty of on-site parking. Our garden is the perfect place to relax, enjoy some great food, drink and entertainment, and be part of the new Detroit excitement.”

The first garden party on Thursday will feature Blaire Alise and the Bombshells, a blend of  ’60s pop and garage rock. Detroit’s jazz flutist Alexander Zoniic will also perform weekly Tuesday night concerts, beginning June 9.

In addition to Zoniic’s concerts, the Whitney’s Thursday night garden parties will feature different bands each week, including The Webbs on June 18, The School of Rock on August 6, and Annabelle Road on Aug. 13.

The Gardens will also feature a three-course dinner menu, including items like grilled shrimp gazpacho, crispy fried lake perch, and a trio of miniature desserts by pastry chef Eric Bunge.

“There’s nothing better than summer in The Whitney’s gardens,” Liebler says.  “It’s great relaxing and great times and we look forward to sharing them with all of Detroit.”
