FARMINGTON HILLS – JARC, an organization serving people with disabilities, has been selected to receive a $58,700 grant from The Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan to provide for a management training program.
“At JARC, we believe that a better quality of life for those we serve depends on efficient and effective training for staff focusing on management development,” says Lisa Rothberger, chief talent officer of JARC. “Cultivating our talent, encouraging them to become leaders and giving them tools to do so enables us to promote from within. That’s what this grant is all about.”
The one-year grant is for the development of a Basic Management Training Program curriculum and allows JARC to collaborate with two other agencies, Angels’ Place and Kadima to create a 40-hour intensive training program for frontline staff to help prepare them to be candidates for promotion within.
The program will be delivered to 15 or more employees from each organization and will provide the organizations with a forum to share training practices, leverage time and resources in preparing managers, and benefit individual employees as they develop professionally. The ultimate goal is to train and retain well-prepared managers, thus insuring the well-being of those served for years to come.
JARC and Angels Place serve people with developmental disabilities and Kadima serves people with chronic mental illness. “Kadima is excited about this grant because we believe that investing in our employees through training programs like this is essential in developing our employees’ skills and making them feel that we value them and their work,” says Eric Adelman, executive director of Kadima.
“Creating a pool of highly trained and motivated staff also helps reduce employee turnover, which is central to client care; as staff get to know our clients they are able to provide a higher level of care and stability for some of the most vulnerable people in our community.”
