Buddy’s Pizza Gives Back to Motown Museum

2206

DETROIT — Starting next week, Buddy’s Pizza will be giving back to the Motor City and shedding light on another local favorite, the Motown Museum.

Every Friday from June 26 to Aug. 28, Buddy’s Pizza fans can enjoy a harmonious blend of two Motor City classics during Motown Fridays. Classic tunes like those of The Supremes, Stevie Wonder and other Detroit music legends will be piped through the family-owned restaurant’s 11 locations, while fans dine on the newly-introduced Motown Museum pizza.

For each Motown Museum pizza sold, Buddy’s will donate $1 to the museum in support of the continued preservation of Detroit’s musical history. As an added bonus on Motown Fridays $2 for each Motown Museum pizza purchased will be given back to the museum.

“Just a few miles from where we invented the original square Sicilian-style pizza, Berry Gordy and his team invented the Motown Sound at Hitsville, U.S.A.,” said Wes Pikula, Buddy’s Pizza vice president of operations.  “A lot of great things have come out of Detroit, and from one Motor City original to another, it’s an honor to support the Motown Museum and help ensure the continued preservation of our city’s rich cultural history.”

Buddy’s will add the Motown Museum pizza to the Motor City Pizza Collection, which launched in 2011 in honor of the first Buddy’s Pizza Day. Reflecting the restaurants’ support of many of the city’s cherished cultural institutions, the collection currently features pies named for The Henry Ford, The Parade Company, The Detroit Zoo, Detroit Institute of Arts and now the Motown Museum.

Motown Museum Chairman and CEO Robin Terry noted that Buddy’s Pizza is a Detroit icon, as is Motown Records. Buddy’s was a favorite at the Hitsville House in the ’60s, and like the Motown Museum, has focused on being a place for families to connect and create memories.

“The Motown Museum is honored to be included among other uniquely Detroit institutions in the Buddy’s Pizza Motor City Pizza Collection,” Terry says. “The Museum prides itself on continuing our mission, which is to preserve and protect the Motown legacy, while serving as a partner to the businesses and organizations that are making our local community thrive. This relationship with Buddy’s Pizza will help to further strengthen our presence as one of Michigan’s top tourist destinations, and allows us to extend some additional benefits to our Motown Museum family of members.”
