Genesys Health System Appoints New Chairman

TROY — John A. Anderson has been appointed chairman of the board of Genesys Health System by the Board of Trustees for Genesys Health System, Grand Blanc. Genesys is widely acclaimed as one of the nation’s best hospitals and focuses on quality healthcare delivery to residents of the southeast-Michigan region. Genesys was among only three hospitals in Michigan to receive the 2010 award as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals. Genesys Health System is part of the Acension Health System, which is the nation’s largest non-profit hospital system, made up of more than 70 hospitals in 20 states and Washington D.C., with revenues of more than $16 billion.

Anderson is the co-chair of the Health Care Practice Group at Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton P.C., representing numerous health care providers ranging from large single and multi-specialty groups to small groups and individual physicians. He also represents Accountable Care Organizations, diagnostic providers, physical therapy providers, and home health agencies. He has considerable experience as a business lawyer representing both middle-market clients and entrepreneurs, while a main focus of his practice is in health care law, primarily on the provider side.

Anderson has considerable experience working with banks, particularly in relation to loan workouts, special asset issues, forbearance agreements and foreclosures, as well as the civil and bankruptcy litigation related to such workout matters.

Anderson’s practice areas include all manner of business transactional and litigation matters, with an emphasis on banking and healthcare law and the full spectrum of healthcare provider issues including compliance matters, fraud and abuse, third-party audits, billing and reimbursement, entity formation, contract negotiations, physician self-referral/Stark, Anti-kickback, licensing, and litigation.

Anderson is an adjunct professor of management at Walsh College in its MBA program.
