Beaumont Health System Names Vitale New Chief Financial Officer

Gene Michalski, president and chief executive officer, Beaumont Health System, has announced the appointment of Nick Vitale, of Troy, as executive vice president and chief financial officer. The appointment was effective June 1.

Vitale succeeds Dennis Herrick, who will serve as executive vice president, financial strategy advisor until his retirement in May 2012.

As a seasoned financial executive with more than 30 years of experience in health care, Nick complements and continues the strength of our executive leadership team,” says Michalski. “We’re delighted to have him assume the role of chief financial officer while capitalizing on Mr. Herrick’s experience during the transition.”

Before being named CFO, Vitale served as Beaumont’s senior vice president, Financial Operations since 2007. Prior to this, he served as vice president of finance and chief financial executive of Beaumont Hospital, Troy beginning in 2005.

His early career was spent with the Sisters of Mercy Health Care Corporation, after which he joined the Detroit Medical Center. At the DMC he held senior financial positions at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Children’s Hospital and finally served as the DMC’s chief financial officer. Before joining Beaumont in 2005, Vitale served as the vice president of finance/chief financial officer at Bon Secours/Cottage Health Services.

Vitale holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University with a special focus in Finance and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University. He is a fellow and a certified managed care professional in the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He is active in community organizations, serving on the boards of the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Detroit and the Boys & Girls Club of Troy. Vitale also serves as chair of the Board of Visitors, Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Wayne State. He is the immediate past chair of the American Diabetes Association, Southeast Michigan.
