DEARBORN, Mich., June 15, 2009 – More than 500 classic automobiles from the 1930s to the 1970s will cruise through the streets of Greenfield Village this Father’s Day Weekend during its annual Motor Muster event, June 20-21, with extended hours until 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. Motor Muster is free with Greenfield Village admission or membership to The Henry Ford; tickets are $22 adults, $21 seniors (62 and up) and $16 youth (5-12). Children under five and members are free. Explore chrome-covered classics and revved-up muscle cars lining the streets all weekend, and take in the pass-in-review parades, when automotive historians offer insight on vintage cars from the 1930’s to the 1970’s. On Saturday, Greenfield Village will extend its hours until 9 p.m. for visitors to catch their favorite rides cruising the village streets.
Highlighted this year is the 100th anniversary of the Hudson Motor Company. In tribute, classic Hudson cars will be displayed on the Village Green, including the influential 1951 NASCAR Grand National racer, the “Fabulous Hudson Hornet.” A special presentation on the Hudson racing legacy by Bob Casey, The Henry Ford’s curator of transportation, will take place at noon on Saturday.
Also on display will be the GM Futurliner #10, the only restored one of its kind. This unique-looking vehicle was one of 12 created by General Motors for the Parade of Progress, a traveling display in the 1940s and 1950s that showcased American progress and innovation. Visitors will be able to see the vehicle all weekend in front of Town Hall and peek inside the vehicle, fully restored to the way it was meant to be seen.
On Saturday evening, enjoy a special live recreation of a World War II USO show, featuring live music and dancing to 1940s swing hits performed by Master of the Music Big Band. A special wartime radio broadcast will be read by Michigan’s own Marty Bufalini, an automotive historian and actor who most recently appeared in the feature films Gran Torino and Prayers for Bobby.
