CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP — PRISM Plastics has announced a new $1.5 million contract with Nexteer Automotive to supply tight-tolerance steering parts (sensor convers and shock dampeners) for domestic OEMs. These components will expand PRISM’s production beyond tight-tolerance seat belt, air bag, fuel and brake parts.

“Nexteer is among the leaders in our industry,” says PRISM Vice President Jerry Williams. “We’re thrilled to be working with a partner who shares our commitment to precision engineering, developing airtight processes, and taking full advantage of the latest technology.”

Each of the parts is a critical component of Nexteer’s rack-assist electric power steering unit. The parts fall into two categories: sensor covers that provide a crucial seal to the steering assembly and shock dampeners that prevent the wheel from turning too far within the system. These parts will be produced at PRISM’s Harlingen, Texas and Chesterfield plants for Nexteer’s Queretaro, Mexico and Saginaw, Michigan facilities, respectively.

PRISM’s commitment to technology has driven the company’s success, even when much of the industry has struggled. Its leadership team’s ongoing investment in automation, environmental controls and process management exemplifies PRISM’s vision: to equip each facility with the best people, technology and infrastructure available to assure world-class control in the manufacturing of critical-use components requiring the tightest of tolerances. It brought in $22 million in revenue for 2012, up from $5 million in 2009.
