Westin Book Cadillac Detroit Receives Award for Best Renovation Project in U.S.

DETROIT, Mich., March 12, 2008 – The Associated General Contractors of America, the leading national construction trade association representing all facets of commercial construction, recently announced that The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit received the 2009 Aon Build America Award for best renovation of the 453-room hotel and its more than 60 residences. A total of 13 projects were recognized for their complexity, innovation, success and ultimately, for their significance to the construction community and the nation at large.

“We are honored to receive this award,“ said John Ferchill, chairman and CEO, The Ferchill Group, developer of The Westin Book Cadillac hotel and residences. “Our construction team of Marous Brothers Construction (Willoughby, Ohio) and Jenkins Construction (Detroit) did an outstanding job to restore this iconic property and return elegance to Detroit’s hospitality community.” More than 1,000 construction workers were on the job over a two year period to rebuild the Book Cadillac that originally opened in 1924 on Detroit’s Washington Boulevard, known as the Fifth Avenue of the Midwest. The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit reopened in October 2008 as a 453-room luxury hotel with more than 60 residences on the top floors. The hotel space was reconfigured from its original 1,136 guestrooms, banquets spaces and public areas to create a modern design with significant historical flourishes. The hotel now offers 39,000 square feet of meeting space that includes three ballrooms, 13 meeting rooms and a WestinWORKOUT SM Fitness Center with indoor pool. Dining and bar options include Celebrity Chef Michael Symon’s Roast restaurant, spa1924grille, The Boulevard Room and The Motor Bar.
