SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 20, 2009 — In this era of government bailouts, the Engineering Society of Detroit Institute (ESDI) has come up with a bold initiative to enable businesses to cut costs without the use of public funds or tax incentives.

This initiative, designed to help revitalize Michigan’s struggling economy and attract new businesses to the state, is a result of a two-day symposium held in March 2009 and attended by powerful leaders from the business, labor, government, law, academic, financial and nonprofit communities.

Titled the Michigan Green Enterprise Zone, the symposium also resulted in a comprehensive plan to innovate labor/management relations, legal dispute resolution and sovereign operating attributes—all without the use of public dollars.

“The results of this bold plan will translate into immediate global competitiveness for Michigan without public dollars, as well as jobs for Michigan’s workers from labor, management and the professions,” said Christopher J. Webb, JD, co-director of the ESDI.

Details about this bold plan and implementation timeline will be unveiled to a group of legislators, business representatives and the media on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 4 p.m. at ESD’s headquarters, 20700 Civic Center Drive, Suite 450, Southfield.
