Forgotten Harvest to Host Second Annual Women’s Harvest Lunch

Published:

Oak Park-based Forgotten Harvest, a nonprofit food donation organization, will host its second annual Women’s Harvest Lunch to help raise funds and provide food for local families in need.

“This year’s Women’s Harvest Lunch theme is ‘25 Years and Growing’ in commemoration of our 25th anniversary,” says Kirk Mayes, CEO of Forgotten Harvest. “Our work is far from done, so events like this help us to spread the word and help to grow our mission of fighting hunger in metro Detroit.”

The event will take place at Forgotten Harvest Farms, 9153 Major Rd., at 11 a.m. on Sept. 25. Attendees will get to take a tour of the farm, and hear the story of Forgotten Harvest, which was founded by Dr. Nancy Fishman.

Other activities include a silent auction, lunch provided by Fenton-based restaurant The Laundry, and networking. Attendees will also learn more about the farm’s focus on growing “nutrient dense” foods like broccoli, peppers, kale, and lettuce, which are not easily available to those in need, and the issues and challenges related to fresh food access for families in various areas of metro Detroit.

Tickets are $100 each. Sponsorship opportunities are also available beginning at $500.
