DSO Launches On-Demand Music Archive

Published:

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has launched an on-demand classical performance archive on its website that features more than 100 works originally performed on the orchestra's Live From Orchestra Hall webcast series.

“Today’s audiences crave online content when and where they please,” says Eric Woodhams, director of digital initiatives. “Replay gives our patrons instant access to a growing library of performances, with new content added just days after each live classical program all season long. We’re making our incredible DSO even more accessible to audiences.”

Through Replay, music fans can stream full-length classical works on-demand in HD, and new content will be added each week during classical season. Viewers can browse content by composer, date, or through a rotating series of playlists such as “Virtuoso Violin,” “Living Composers,” “Made in America,” and more. Works currently available for streaming include classics by Beethoven and Mozart, 20th century masterpieces, and a sampling by living composers.

Roughly 5,000 annual fund supporters are eligible to use the new service to its full extent, and all patrons who join the annual fund with a gift of $50 or more will receive full access.

The DSO is the first American orchestra to make its performance archive available on-demand. Previously, past footage was only available through special encore broadcasts on the orchestra's website or through YouTube clips.
