Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation Plans Fundraiser

DETROIT — What do strappy stilettos and sauvignon blanc have in common? They will both play a role in the second annual Wine, Women & Shoes event Oct. 9 at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth benefiting Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation’s Dream. Hope. Discover. Campaign.

The event welcomes 400 wine-savvy, shoe-loving guests as they kick up their heels and sip varietals from some of the country’s top winemakers, shop the latest trends in the multi-designer Marketplace, and swoon over the charming “Shoe Guys” serving up this season’s must-haves on silver platters.

This year, Detroit radio legend Dick Purtan, wife Gail Purtan and family will serve as the co-chairpersons of the event. The Purtan family has a personal history with the Children’s Hospital of Michigan DMC, as their daughter Jackie was a patient as a child with a rare blood and kidney disorder. Dr. Larry Fleischmann was the attending physician that helped save Jackie’s life. Dr. Fleischmann and wife Pat are the honorary chairs of the event and will share their story with attendees.

“The Wine, Women & Shoes event offers attendees an evening of fun and fashion, while supporting our commitment to children’s health,” said Tony Werner, president & CEO, Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation. “By sponsoring or purchasing a ticket to this one-of-a-kind event in our region, women are helping fund one of six children’s health initiatives that include sophisticated treatments, family training and support, a global information network for cardiac surgeons and school-based health services for youngsters,” he added.

Neiman Marcus, for the second year in a row, will present a glamorous fashion show highlighting the best looks fall has to offer. The marketplace will offer attendees the opportunity to shop a special collection of apparel and accessories, reflective of the latest trends. A live auction will provide attendees the chance to bid on travel packages, jewelry and unique experiences; partygoers will also have the occasion to sample wines from Napa and Italy, complements of Ferrari, Chateau St Jean BIJOU, Boisset, ARBIOS, and Tres Sabores. A raffle offering a chance to win the “key to the closet,” that includes a gift card for a custom storage solution from California Closets and other luxury merchandise, is sure to make someone’s evening.

The goal of the event reaches beyond fun, fashion and wine: all proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation’s two-year initiative committed to advancing life-saving pediatric research, supporting community outreach, and significantly improving young people’s health.
