DETROIT — Canadian rock and roll band April Wine and Detroit’s own The Rockets will perform on the fourth night of the Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront on Aug. 1. The free summer concert series is presented in partnership with Chevrolet, theDetroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, MetroPCS, and 94.7 WCSX Detroit’s Classic Rock, with Friday night shows through Aug. 15.

Rockin’ on the Riverfront, spanning six consecutive Fridays, located between the GM Renaissance Center and the Detroit River, has become a summer staple in the city. Upcoming shows include Eddie Money on Aug. 8 and America on Aug. 15.

New this year, fans were invited to help select the opening bands during the “Rockin’ Wars.”  Bands “battled it out” for the opportunity to open for event headliners. Fans were able to view videos of the contestants on wcsx.com and vote for their favorite artists. The top three contestants will rock out on the riverfront stage.

To celebrate those who served or are serving their country, 94.7 WCSX, in partnership with Strategic Staffing Solutions, will honor veterans each week with VIP seating in Veterans Row at Rockin’ on the Riverfront. To participate, veterans can register at wcsx.com for the weekly drawings.

Additionally, 94.7 WCSX will be selling Stone Soup Project raffle tickets each Friday during the concert series to win a rebuilt 1970 Pontiac Firebird. The Stone Soup Project is an annual challenge to 94.7 WCSX listeners to rebuild a classic car solely on donations and volunteers. Raffle tickets are $10 and the car will be on display in the GM Renaissance Center Wintergarden the night of the Eddie Money concert.

Admission to the concerts is always free and no tickets are necessary. Viewing space is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, but outside food, beverages, and coolers are not permitted. In addition, boaters on the Detroit River are welcome to anchor near the riverfront and enjoy the shows from the water.

Convenient parking is available for $5 per vehicle, starting at 5 p.m. at the GM surface lot located at the intersection of St. Antoine and Atwater streets, adjacent to the GM Renaissance Center.
