SOUTHFIELD — Glen LeRoy of Bloomfield Hills is this year’s recipient of the Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects Michigan. The Gold Medal is the highest honor that can be given to an AIA Michigan architect.
Since becoming Dean of the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University, LeRoy has instituted a work/study graduate fellowship program with Detroit area firms that has raised in excess of $1 million in direct fellowship aid and employment support for graduate students.
Under his leadership, LTU’s College of Architecture and Design is establishing a consolidated design center in the urban core of Detroit, which is scheduled to open in early 2015. The Center for Design and Technology will feature design studios, an exhibition gallery, academic research facilities, K-12 design education programs, and community partnerships.
He is a fellow of both the American Institute of Architects and the American Institute of Certified Planners.
A native of New Orleans, LeRoy earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture at Tulane University, a Master of Architecture and a Master of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in architecture from Tulane.
