SOUTHFIELD — Demolition of the old Ramada Inn site off Nine Mile Road. in Southfield has begun to make room for a future development.

On May 6, Southfield City Council awarded the demolition and site restoration of the former hotel, a 5.5-acre site, at 17017 W. Nine Mile Road to the Adamo Group of Detroit at a cost of $1.32 million. This demolition started on August 10 and, includes asbestos removal and complete removal of the existing structure. All electrical service has been terminated in conjunction with DTE Energy.

“This is an important step to help us draw new investment to the DDA and the city,” Aceves said. “This is an ideal location for developers, healthcare companies, educational institutions, retailers and other businesses because it offers easy access to major highways with the added benefit of being off a street that will be newly renovated (Nine Mile Road) this summer.”

Southfield City Council authorized the acquisition of a tax foreclosure on the property where the former Ramada Inn sites on June 18, 2012, and shortly thereafter the Southfield DDA entered into an agreement with the former property owner to acquire the five-acre site adjacent to the structure. A requirement of this agreement then was a commitment to demolish the existing structure and conduct a fill site environmental abatement.
