Mammoth Reach entrepreneurs look to improve photo booth experience.

Tired of those small, grainy, black-and-white snapshots from a photo booth? So are Jesse Green and Nick Keebaugh.

The entrepreneurs, who launched a Web design and marketing company called Mammoth Reach in 2010, saw an opportunity to improve what photo booths offered at major events and private parties. Providing custom backdrops and digital photography, they launched Mammoth Booth last year.

“The photos are available online instantly, so people can share them on Facebook or Twitter, print them, ‘Like’ them, post them on a computer screen — it’s whatever you want to do,” says Green, 21. “You can create your own backdrop or use an existing one, or we can do that for you.”

Available in Detroit and Chicago, Mammoth Booth complements Green and Keebaugh’s Web design operation, and vice versa. “Our existing clients use Mammoth Booth, and we’ve landed new clients from the photo booth events,” says Green, a professional photographer.

The pair charges $200 an hour for the photo booth, and can create a custom backdrop for between $200 and $450, depending on the complexity of the design. Since April 2012, Mammoth Booth has landed several dozen accounts. Over the next few years, the duo plans to expand throughout the Midwest and eventually the rest of the country.

“It’s funny how a side project can improve the reach of your existing company,” Green says. “Had there not been some synergies between the two companies, we likely wouldn’t have gotten into the photo space. But we’re glad we did.” db
