SOUTHFIELD — Grant Thornton LLP’s Detroit office experienced strong growth in fiscal year 2012 tied to the improving economic conditions in southeast Michigan. The firm announced the hiring of a senior manager in the tax practice, effective Aug. 6, as well as other promotions recognizing the employees who helped make the year so successful.

On Aug. 1, Kendra Dodson was named director of the national audit support group, based in the Detroit office. She has nearly 13 years of experience and specializes in developing audit training and other firm guidance. Dodson has worked in the national office for more than six years and previously was an audit manager in the Detroit office. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University.
Rebecca Merriman was named senior manager in the audit practice. She has nine years of experience, specializing in audits of international private and public companies as well as employee benefit plans. Merriman has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in accounting from Walsh College. She is finishing a two-year international assignment in Dusseldorf, Germany, and will be returning to the Detroit office at the beginning of September.
On Aug. 6, Jason Rhodes was hired as a senior manager in the tax practice. Rhodes is a certified public accountant and joins Grant Thornton after 12 years at BDO USA, LLP. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Oakland University.
