Sept. 20, 2010, Clarkston, MI, — A new entrepreneurial workshop takes place on October 9th and 10th at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi. The conference, called WordCamp Detroit, will help small business owners, bloggers, and internet enthusiasts get the most out of WordPress software.

As the internet replaces and enhances traditional print and telephone media, it also provides a platform to voice ideas and a way to bring together people with common interests. WordCamp Detroit will share tips for applying this powerful media tool to grow a business or promote one’s passion on the internet.

WordPress is a user-friendly, free platform for managing a website’s content, making it an excellent resource for small businesses and enthusiasts. Attendees will learn how to employ WordPress tools and technology to their own circumstances and easily translate these new skills to grow their internet presence. The seminar curriculum covers a wide range of topics, addressing both those who currently have little or no internet experience as well as those seeking to improve their existing skills.

“Small businesses should be able to maintain their own website without having to call their webmaster for every little change. I like WordPress because it provides a professional, stable platform that is easy for people to update” says WordCamp Detroit co-founder, Todd List. List, owner of Clarkston-based Maxim650 is among five entrepreneurs and internet developers organizing the conference.

Featuring both local experts and talent from around the country, sessions include all key aspects to creating a website or blog in WordPress. It starts with an introductory application, moves into choosing themes for websites and blogs, finding affordable plugins to extend your site’s functionality, search engine optimization, social media and more. The conference has two “tracks” or parallel sessions, one for users and the other for developers.

Conference fee is $40 and includes both days. Tickets must be purchased online before October 8th, 2010. Conference co-founder List added “The low admission is intentional, to allow as many people as possible to attend.” Sponsorships are still available and begin as low as $100.
