The Entrepreneurial Spirit of Detroit

In an effort to feature metro Detroit’s up-and-coming business leaders, DBusiness presents the first annual MBA Entrepreneur Spotlight. Our criteria was simple: We asked several business schools in southeast Michigan to recommend up to three MBA students who launched or developed for-profit companies before or during their enrollment. From that list, we’ve selected five exceptional entrepreneurs. This is not an awards program, but a recognition of regional startup companies that, despite the faltering local economy, appear destined for success.

The Gilbert Family Foundation is providing $12 million over the next three years to several teams researching the underlying genetic abnormalities in neurofibromatosis type 1 patients in hopes of facilitating a cure for the disease. This is the organization’s first initiative involving gene therapy.

DBusiness Breakfast Series: Economic Forecast

DBusiness Magazine hosted its final Breakfast Series event of 2018 on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Detroit’s Gem Theatre. Guests were treated to a strolling breakfast, networking, and a panel discussion on the 2019 Michigan Economic Forecast.

DoubleTree by Hilton Opens New Luxury Hotel in Bloomfield Hills

Metro Detroit’s newest luxury hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton that was redeveloped from the former Kingsley Inn, expects to greet its first public guests in mid-to-late December, just in time for the holiday season. The property has undergone a complete, multi-year renovation.
