Countdown Underway to 30th Anniversary Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance Weekend

TROY, Mich., July 20, 2009 − In less than two weeks car collectors and automotive aficionados from around the continent will descend on Rochester, Michigan to enjoy an exceptional motoring weekend in the heart of the American automotive landscape when the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance and RM Auctions each celebrate 30th anniversaries July 31 to August 2 on the grounds of the historic Meadow Brook Hall.

The weekend festivities kick off with the Meadow Brook Concours vintage motoring tour of Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham on Friday, July 31.  Along the way, participants will enjoy exclusive tours of esteemed local car collections and lunch at the Townsend Hotel in downtown Birmingham. A behind-the-scenes tour of The Henry Ford is another exciting organized activity available the same day.

On Saturday, August 1, join Ralph Gilles of Chrysler Group LLC, Patrick Schiavone of Ford Motor Company and Bill Porter, retired from General Motors at an Automotive Design Forum in the Meadow Brook Hall Ballroom to hear their thoughts on automotive design over the years.

Also on Saturday, RM’s Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook returns to the Shotwell Pavilion with a selection of 100 collector cars including Detroit-built luxury cars from the private European collection of Thomas H. Rupf. Motown’s “Les Williams and The Contours”, known for songs like Do You Love Me, will be rocking the Concours at its 30th Anniversary Gala on Saturday evening. Held at the Meadow Brook Hall Loggia Terrace, festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with a sumptuous strolling dinner followed by light-hearted activities like hula hoop contests, and a live auction. The weekend’s main event is Sunday’s 2009 Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance featuring a diverse range of over 220 exciting cars and motorcycles.  From drag cars to Duesenbergs, the show field will have something for everyone, including the North American debut of a one-of-a-kind 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300, a rare 1953 Fiat 8V Ghia Supersonic, over 80 cars representing “The Best of Detroit”, a round-the-world 1911 Hupmobile, a Super Car display and exclusive examples from each of the 12 Rolls Royce Phantom series. The Mode du Concours presents ‘Sirens of Chrome’ models dressed in period auto show costumes, further enhancing the show’s style.
