ROYAL OAK, Mich., August 04, 2009 – Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak has been awarded a three-year accreditation in positron emission tomography, or PET, in oncology, cardiac and rrain by the American College of Radiology.

During the accreditation process, ACR’s board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in PET conducted a peer-review evaluation of the practice of nuclear medicine PET imaging at Beaumont. These inspectors examined the qualifications of Beaumont’s personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment.

“Beaumont’s accreditation by the American College of Radiology speaks to our ability to provide the best quality images and ultimately the best patient care through our highly trained staff and leading-edge technology,” says Conrad Nagle, M.D., corporate chief of Nuclear Medicine. “The entire Nuclear Medicine staff works diligently to provide the best and safest practices to ensure the highest standards of care for our patients.”

Criteria of the accreditation included self-assessment and an independent external audit. It ensured that physicians supervising and interpreting medical imaging met stringent education and training standards; imaging equipment is surveyed regularly by qualified medical physicists for proper functioning; and technologists administering the tests are appropriately certified. Also assessed during the accreditation process were policies and procedures, quality assurance activities and patient safety measures.
