Big Three Executives: General Motors Co. 2018

In the third quarter of 2017, GM posted third-quarter losses of almost $3 billion, compared to profits of $2.8 billion during the same period in 2016. The losses were largely the result of one-time charges covering the sale of its Opel/Vauxhall brands in Europe.

Big Three Executives: Ford Motor Co. 2018

Relying largely on the sales of trucks and SUVs, including the iconic F-Series trucks, Ford saw a 63 percent boost in third quarter profits compared to a year ago. The $1.6 billion in earnings came almost exclusively from North American operations.

FCA posted third quarter profits in 2017, bringing in almost $1.1 billion, an increase of some 50 percent over the same period in 2016. The third quarter followed a strong second quarter, where the automaker earned $1.4 billion, more than double the amount from the same period in 2016.

Lumen Detroit Names New General Manager and Kitchen Manager

Lumen Detroit, slated to open this spring as Beacon Park’s anchor restaurant, yesterday announced Sarah Stricher as general manager and William Hollie as kitchen manager. Owners Norman and Bonnie LePage made the announcement. The restaurant will be located at 1903 Grand River in Detroit and will offer craft fare, a large beer list, and an alfresco dining experience. The restaurant will include a green rooftop dining space that features views of Beacon Park and the city skyline.

Rachel Tronstein Stewart Named New Detroit Board Chair

New Detroit Inc., a racial justice organization, announced Wednesday that Rachel Tronstein Stewart, president of Gardner-White Furniture, has been chosen by the organization’s board as its new chair. Tronstein Stewart succeeds William Taubman, who served as board chair for the past eight years.

NextEnergy Announces Saber President And CEO, Durkin COO

Detroit-based NextEnergy, a technology accelerator, Wednesday announced the appointment of Jim Saber to president and CEO, effective March 2. Saber led NextEnergy’s business development and technology commercialization efforts since 2004. Saber replaces Jean Redfield, who will rejoin Fordsell Machine Products, a precision machining manufactory firm she co-owns with her husband.
