The Encompass Home Marks Anniversary

Published:

The Encompass Home, a 2,200 square foot, five-bedroom home designed for local and out-of-state medical patients who require intensive medical, nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy services, has marked its first year in business.

"We provide a warm, intimate environment with excellent attendant care so that each patient receives one-on-one, individual attention," says Dr. Bruce E. Ruben, medical director, owner, and founder of the Encompass Home.

The Encompass Home, formerly the Drake House, located at 26135 Drake Rd. in Farmington Hills, is a state-licensed, adult foster care group home that accommodates paraplegics, quadriplegics, and those who are ambulatory in need of both temporary and permanent around-the-clock medical services in a group setting.

"Healing non-healing wounds outside of a hospital is a fairly new idea, one that our patients seem to like very much," Ruben says. "It eradicates the bureaucracies and hazards of staying in a hospital and our patients are able to get the same hospital-level treatment in an outpatient setting."

Ruben says the goal of the home is to provide patients who need help eating, bathing, dressing, and transferring. Patients also have access to physical therapy, occupational therapy and massage therapy. Equipped with assisted technology, computers and television, the facility is staffed by at least three attendants during the day and two at night, exceeding state requirements. Staff members prepare home-cooked meals, play games with the patients and provide outings to local malls.
