Gerald C. Timmis, a physician from Bloomfield Hills, is donating a $2 million gift in honor of his late wife through the creation of the Dorothy Susan Timmis Endowed Chair of Cardiology to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
“Dorothy was the love of my life and I wish to honor her by creating the endowed chair in her name,” says Timmis.
Timmis, 85, who will be retiring from Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, served on the medical staff for more than 50 years and will also be making this gift to honor Simon Dixon, doctor and chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak, and Troy. He will serve as first endowed chair.
“Not only has Dr. Timmis done a great deal for our patients and the department, he has also significantly helped to advance the field of heart care,” Dixon says.
Timmis says he and Dorothy were married for 49 years and had six sons. His son, Steve Timmis, also a Beaumont cardiologist, is the physician-lead for the Cardiac Critical Care Unit.
The Beaumont Heart and Vascular Center is a comprehensive facility dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart problems.
