Tribute to American Dance to Open at DIA

 “Dance: American Art, 1830–1960," a new exhibit to open at the Detroit Institute of Art will focus on depictions of dance in American art and culture. The exhibit will feature paintings, sculptures, and costumes and will run from March 20 to June 12.

Work by artists Winslow Homer, Aaron Douglass, and Andy Warhol will be featured. Nine watercolors by Diego Rivera will also be on display.

The DIA has also produced a visual catalogue of art related to American dance, edited by Metropolitan Museum of Art associate curator Jane Dini. The book includes essays by prominent dance and art historians.Tickets are $14 for adults, $10 for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county residents, $7 for ages 6–17, $5 for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county residents ages 6–17, and free for DIA members.
