ORION TOWNSHIP — Miller Lite’s Tap the Future competition will make a stop in Detroit and gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of prestigious industry experts, including Daymond John, business mogul and judge of ABC’s Shark Tank, for a chance to win over $200,000.

Now through April 10, entrepreneurs 21 and older can apply by submitting business information through MLTaptheFuture.com. Thirty selected contestants will advance to the semi-final round where they will participate in live pitch events in six different cities, including Detroit. A selected winner from each city will win $20,000 and then compete for the grand prize of $200,000 in Chicago.

Jeff Bright, director of marketing at Orion Township-based Powers Distributing, says the local stop in Michigan is a great idea and good promotion for local companies.

“Miller Lite has a long history of supporting local businesses — from your local grocery store to your favorite corner bar and sporting arena,” Bright says. “Now, Miller Lite’s Tap the Future offers yet another way to support local business growth right here in our area.”

Bright says the kind of support a competition like Miller Lite’s Tap the Future can provide to business owners is just the sort of thing that boosted owners Rob and Gerald Powers into distributing beer full-time. “When Powers started, it was primarily a grocery delivery service,” Bright says. “They were approached to distribute Miller brands which moved the company into the beer business full-time.”

In its third year, Miller Lite’s Tap the Future competition has garnered more than 4,000 entries and awarded more than $700,000 in funding toward success for its participants. For official rules and information, visit MLTaptheFuture.com.
