PONTIAC — Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County raised $82,000 — $13,000 more than last year— at its Annual Fall Extravaganza in November at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.

Habitat also presented Maggie Allesee with its first ever Community Builder Award. Carole Larson Wendzel and Oakland County treasurer Andy Meisner thanked Allesee for the “incredible contributions Maggie has made across our region and the imprint she has left on our institutions.”

Allesee has been doing charity work her entire life, she says. “The most important thing we can do is help other people. We are here because we care about other people having a place to hug and say, ‘This is our home,’” she says.

More than 200 people attended the event emceed by WWJ-AM radio personality Marie Osborne that raised awareness for the organization’s Raise the Roof Fund.

Since 1996, the nonprofit has built and renovated homes for more than 170 families, with 16 more taking place this year. For more information visit habitatoakland.org.
