DETROIT — The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Bayer HeathCare Pharmaceuticals are teaming up with several organizations to present Keep Your Rear in the Clear! during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. A giant inflatable walk-through colon, 20-feet long and 12-feet high, will be on display at the Michigan Science Center March 28-29 to promote colorectal health in a fun and educational way. Health experts will be on hand to answer questions throughout the two-day showing.

Area residents and community groups are also invited to see the large, inflatable human colon on display in the South Tower of Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak until Friday and the first floor Atrium at Beaumont Hospital, Troy from March 11-14.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 126,800 new cases of colorectal cancers will be diagnosed this year alone. Although incident rates have decreased slightly over the past two decades, largely attributed to colorectal cancer screenings, raising awareness of healthy lifestyles, risk factors and the importance of cancer screenings will help save lives.

Guests who purchase general admission tickets to the Michigan Science Center will have access to this special display at no additional cost.
