Compuware President and COO Bob Paul on the 2010 Metro Detroit Heart Ball

I have taken on the role of chair of the American Heart Association 2010 Metro Detroit Heart Ball campaign. My hope is that you will join me for an important mission — to help eradicate the number one killer of men and women.

The success of any campaign depends on extraordinary leadership. This campaign traditionally has raised more money than campaigns in other cities — including much bigger events in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago — because metro Detroiters are generous and are willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

Why is this important? Survivors of heart disease and strokes depend on us to get a message out. Critical research dollars are at stake. We need more Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). We need to train more people in CPR. We need to save more lives.

It is even more important in a tough economy for non-profits and companies to prove that the leaders across southeastern Michigan are resolute in their commitment to the health of our fellow citizens.

As such, for the first time we are asking political, sports, and business leaders to come together at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit on April 24 to celebrate and to help us meet and exceed our $1.5 million fundraising goal. Together, we can make a huge impact. Please contact Kathy Kauffman at 248-936-5820 or kathy.kauffmann@heart.org to sponsor or donate to this lifesaving campaign.
