General Motors Donates $5M to The Henry Ford in Dearborn

Detroit-based General Motors Co. today announced it has contributed $5 million to The Henry Ford in Dearborn. In recognition of the donation, the flexible gallery space in the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation will be named The Gallery by General Motors.

Work Begins on Fitzgerald Revitalization Project on Detroit’s West Side

Government, civic, and neighborhood leaders broke ground today on efforts to revitalize the Livernois-McNichols area on Detroit’s west side. The Ella Fitzgerald Park groundbreaking is the first major construction of the two-year Fitzgerald Revitalization Project, that will see some 115 vacant homes rehabbed for rental or sale, 16 demolished, and nearly 200 vacant lots turned into greenways, gardens, flowering meadows, or other community assets.

Truck Hero in Ann Arbor to Acquire Jeep Accessories Supplier Omix-ADA

Ann Arbor-based automotive accessory company Truck Hero has announced an agreement to acquire Omix-ADA Inc., an independent developer and supplier of Jeep off-road parts, accessories, and floor liners. The acquisition is expected to close at the end of October.

Detroit Blows Opens City’s First Non-Toxic Blow-Dry Bar

Non-toxic blow dry salon Detroit Blows has opened for business on the ground floor of the Z-Lot at 1232 Library St. The more than 2,000-square-foot salon will offer an array of beauty services. It will also be an impact-driven retail footprint by offering a rotating lineup of socially conscious brands from Detroit-based and global product makers.

U-M Tech Transfer Reports 444 New Inventions in FY2017

Researchers at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor reported 444 new inventions, up from last year’s 428 and the fifth consecutive year with more than 400 inventions from U-M faculty. U-M Tech Transfer also had a record 172 U.S. patents issued in fiscal year 2017, an increase from 135 in fiscal year 2016.
