Henry Ford Health System Appoints Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer

DETROIT — Mark Coticchia, an internationally recognized expert in the field of technology-based economic development, technology management, commercialization, and venture development, has joined Henry Ford Health System as Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer.

In his position, Coticchia will advance commercial innovation of therapies, devices, diagnostics and business solutions by licensing technologies, creating companies, and leveraging the Henry Ford brand nationally and internationally.

“As our physicians, scientists and partners create new products and technologies, we want to develop an exciting vision and take our technology development and commercialization strategy to a world-class level,” says Bob Riney, president and chief operating officer of Henry Ford.

“Henry Ford Innovations will not only enhance our national and international stature, but also drive high tech economic development in Detroit and Southeast Michigan.” 

Coticchia previously served as founder and Co-CEO of Redwind Innovations LLC, a company that provides products and services for technology management, venture development and economic growth to universities, hospitals, foundations, governments and private industry.

Prior to founding Redwind, Mark was vice president for Research, Technology Management, and Economic Development at Case Western Reserve University where he directed the university’s research agenda, technology commercialization priorities and economic development strategies and initiatives.  Coticchia has also served as director of technology transfer at Carnegie Mellon University and an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship.

He received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management and Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.  He is the author of several books on technology management and is a frequent speaker to international audiences from industry, government, and academia.
