DETROIT — Imerman Angels, a cancer support organization with headquarters in Chicago will launch its first chapter in Michigan, led by Duffy Wineman, named Michigan regional director.
Launched in Chicago in 2006 by Detroit native and testicular cancer survivor Jonny Imerman, Imerman Angels provides support to cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers. Through a personalized matching process, cancer fighters or caregivers are connected with someone referred to as “mentor angel,” who has experienced a similar cancer situation
Imerman Angels’ services are free and information is kept confidential. Organization officials say Imerman Angels continues to grow and has helped more than 7,800 cancer patients and 2,200 caregivers across all 50 states and around the globe.
Wineman has an expansive background in charitable outreach and fundraising having worked for organizations including the Academy of the Sacred Heart, and the John H. Wineman Education, and Research Fund in Radiation Oncology at the University of Michigan.
Imerman Angels is hosting a launch party at The Birmingham Athletic Club from 7 p.m to 11 p.m. on May 10. This casual affair will aim to spread awareness of the importance of Imerman Angels for the cancer community in Detroit.
