Wayne State’s James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History invites the public to participate in an interactive art experience. Through May 6, 2011, Wayne State visitors and members of the campus community can vote for their favorite works in an exciting new competition for the WSU Campus Art Installation Award.
The competition provides an opportunity for Wayne State art students to share their talent with the public. Students were invited to create temporary artworks that relate to architecture and landscape. Five art installations are on display through May 13. Two awards will be given: the Best Art Installation Award ($500) and First Place Award ($250). Awards will be announced at the closing reception of WSU’s 2011 Undergraduate Exhibition at the Art Department Gallery, from 5-8 p.m. on May 13. Visit http://go.wayne.edu/artaward to vote.
Temporary public art provides a unique experience for the viewer. The artwork reformulates the nearby architecture and landscape. Such site-specific work offers people a way to reconsider how they interact with their surroundings.
