Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Dr. Mahir Elder has assembled a multidisciplinary team of the nation's finest cardiovascular physicians. The Heart & Vascular Institute (HVI) was founded on the premise that heart disease is treatable, manageable and, most importantly, preventable.

Dr. Elder is part of Cardio Team One and has the fastest "door-to-balloon" time for heart attacks — just 16 minutes (the national goal is 90 minutes). In addition, Dr. Elder is the highest volume operator in Michigan for endovascular repair, which is a minimally invasive treatment for peripheral artery disease.

Dr. Elder is an assistant clinical professor at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He plays an integral role in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows in cardiology training programs. Dr. Elder is the choice of other doctors for their cardiovascular needs. He is known as a "Doctor's Doctor."

Dr. Elder holds several board certifications and he is the recipient of dozens of awards, varying from "Peoples Choice Awards" to the "Teacher of the Year."
