One just can't help but hear the laughter coming from down the halls, and see the bright smiles and excitement at the reception center. Homemade, whole-grain, organic muffins — and, yes, a piping-hot, freshly made rhubarb pie — are being presented to the office staff. A patient in the comfort room asks, "How do I get a fresh rhubarb pie?" The office manager wittily answers, "You need to become an exceptional chiropractor!"

This office certainly doesn't resemble a doctor's office. It is an upscale, modern, state-of-the-art facility. It is Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness Center.

"I am truly living the dream," Dr. Elizabeth Brieden says. "I have never been happier. Creating this all-encompassing wellness center just fills me up with gratitude and vitality."

This soothing and tranquil space is where Dr. Brieden comes to work each day. Her work is to teach and heal by providing her patients with the answers about what they need to do in order to get and stay well.

Dr. Brieden has the expertise required to practice evidence-based wellness. She has been a board-certified chiropractic physician for 22 years, and has completed extensive postgraduate studies in wellness and nutrition. She is a member of the International Council on Wellness Science, a member and volunteer for the Foundation for Wellness Professionals, a certified Therapeutic Lifestyle Coach, and she is certified in First Line Therapy. Dr. Brieden is the founder and developer of a "healthy lifestyle" program that is being launched to fifth-graders in her hometown. "I have realized that playing small does not serve my community," she says. "By addressing the causes of illness — chronic lifestyles and environmental stresses — we can work together to save lives, save money, and save health care. Our current system is not working. We don't need more debate about who should pay for health care; we need to start debating what kind of health care we should pay for."

Dr. Brieden's goal is to empower her patients to make their own healthy lifestyle choices. That is the foundation of her wellness and prevention practice. Dr. Brieden now operates two chiropractic practices. Her main office, Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness Center, is located in St. Clair and was voted 2010 Business of the Year. Her satellite office, HealthWorks Chiropractic, is located in Macomb, one mile from Partridge Creek.
