It's often been said that a person's best attribute is self-confidence, but in today's busy and hectic world, achieving a sense of harmony between one's inside and outside is no simple task. Just ask Samer Alnajjar, M.D.

As one of the Detroit area's most in-demand Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Dr. Alnajjar sees people every day who are seeking practical solutions to remedy the march of time, or to correct unforeseen changes in their appearance.

And whether he's surgically removing under-eye bags on patients looking for a little rejuvenation or correcting a cleft palate on an otherwise perfect newborn, he stands ready to apply his considerable skills to those afflicted areas, no matter where they appear on a patient's body.

"Many surgeons choose to specialize on a certain part of the body," Dr. Alnajjar says. "I concentrate on all parts of the body and face, head to toe.

From the first meeting at one of his three metro Detroit offices, Dr. Alnajjar's approach to each patient is that of an advocate and partner dedicated to making sure that those who place their faith in him leave his care with an optimal result. The single most important part of meeting that goal includes looking at the total patient — their lifestyle and their overall health, not just their age.

"I have patients who have a variety of concerns," he says. "I have 60-year-olds who have no time, and 30-year-olds who have all the time in the world. And I have patients who have underlying health issues — but that doesn't mean they should not seek surgery. All of these factors come into play when deciding how to best address the patient's concerns."

For Dr. Alnajjar, that means opening up a path of treatment for patients that produces natural, lasting results.
"Not everyone has the time required for an extended recovery, and today we're lucky to have minimally invasive procedures that produce noticeable results for the face and body," he says.

"Fillers — sometimes from a person's own body — and injectables can restore lost volume in the face and can be combined with other procedures, such as upper-eyelid lifts and brow lifts, for an excellent result," Dr. Alnajjar says. "Throughout the process, we talk about all the possibilities, and decide together when — and how — to proceed."

After surgery, Dr. Alnajjar devotes as much time as necessary to helping patients get back on their feet, often personally changing dressings and performing tasks that other doctors typically would delegate to someone else.

The doctor's approach to patient care represents what's unique about the constantly-evolving field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. "Every patient is an individual; no two are the same," he says. "My goal is to help patients achieve a better version of themselves."

Dr. Alnajjar completed his surgical residency at Wayne State University. He then completed two prestigious fellowships, the first in Microsurgery at the University of Southern California, and the second in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y. Dr. Alnajjar is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Head and Neck Society, and the Society of Surgery of the Hand.

He is affiliated with St. John Hospital and Medical Center, St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Henry Ford Hospital, the Detroit Medical Center, and Oakwood Hospitals.
