Seattle-based UIEvolution, a provider of connected device software solutions to the automotive, cruise, hospitality, and retail industries, is opening up an office in Ann Arbor to support autonomous vehicle technology.

“The  new office will expand UIEvolution’s presence in the Detroit area and provide our present and future automotive customers with immediate, on-the-ground service,” says Chris Ruff, UIEvolution’s CEO and president.

UIEvolution licenses its software technology to companies such as Toyota, Lexus, Clarion, Southfield-based Denso, Fujitsu Ten, a manufacturer of car audio systems, Pioneer, and Panasonic.

UIEvolution created a software system for Toyota that provides connectivity to cloud-based data for drivers with mobile devices. Using the system, drivers can access vehicle information and entertainment from an in-dash display screen.

Derek Rohloff, vice president of automotive worldwide content and North American sales, will head the Ann Arbor office. Rohloff has worked with Visteon and Ford Motor Co. in the past. Mike Chachich, UIEvolution’s senior manager, will join him.
