Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, a nonprofit located in downtown Detroit, hosts a variety of performing arts, including dance, theater, and music, with an emphasis on jazz. The hall’s opening night was Dec. 9, 1928. It has been fully restored and seats 1,731 people. Inside the hall are four lounge areas, a jazz café, and terraces on the rooftop. The building’s large capacity allows it to host non-theatrical events such as corporate meetings, parties, benefits, fundraisers, and more. The organization has several educational programs that exposes 22,000 students to the arts annually. The programs are free to students and include the Band Room, Theatre for Young People, Jazz Vocal and weekly Jazz Jams, and others. The Music Hall is able to continue its mission through the generosity of its trustees, producers, corporate sponsors, foundations, and patrons.
