Milford Amphitheater Fundraising Project Moves Forward

MILFORD — As plans continue to unfold for AMP in Central Park,  a community-driven initiative to build a one-of-a-kind outdoor amphitheater in downtown Milford, organizers are focuing on the call for donations.

In less than a year, organizers for the grassroots project have collected more than half of the $500,000 fundraising goal, including a $155,000 contribution from the LaFontaine family, owners of LaFontaine Automotive Group and longtime Milford residents.

In an effort to continue raising awareness and money for the project, the organizers have formed a corporate donations committee, targeting local businesses and corporate companies serving Northwestern Oakland County.

“We’re so grateful to all the AMP in Central Park supporters,” said Jack Shubitowski, president and CEO of Huron Valley State Bank and AMP Donations Committee member. “Without the support of the community this project would be impossible. We’re confident the formation of the donations committee will assist with raising awareness in the community, as well as securing major contributions from businesses and corporate institutions that service and call Milford home.”

Shubitowski and his fellow committee members Kim Gilbraith, John Grissim and Lyle Tyler, have their sights set on securing 10 Conductor-level sponsorships, a contribution of over $10,000. Conductor-level sponsors will receive recognition in numerous ways, including a featured sponsorship at one of the 2014 Summer Concert Series performances.

“The AMP in Central Park project represents a strong dedication to the performing arts in Oakland County,” said Ann Barnette, executive director of the Milford Downtown Development Authority. “The amphitheater will not only serve as the venue for the already existent Summer Concert Series, but also has the potential to host community and performing arts recitals featuring students from Milford area schools. It’s truly a site that will be enjoyed by all.”

The 3-phase project is expected to take about 18 months. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2014, first with the amphitheater and stage and followed by the development of  permanent restroom facilities in the park.

The AMP in Central Park project is a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of Milford, the Huron Valley Chamber of Commerce and theMilford Downtown Development Authority.
