A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors is family owned and operated, as they have been since their founding in 1917. For 100 years, the McInnes, Desmond, Vasu, Connell, and Price families have personally served metro Detroit families and communities with the highest level of empathy, dignity, and care. A.J. Desmond & Sons' funeral directors and staff live here, work here, and care about the people here.
The Desmond Way is to always be compassionate and sensitive to families' needs, to offer complete assistance before and after the funeral, and to accept the noble responsibility entrusted to them with the highest level of integrity and respect. Their first priority is always the families they serve, and they make their decisions based on what best serves these families and the local communities as a whole. Desmond works to increase customer value. Its directors, the best in the area, are empowered to make decisions that accommodate family wishes while providing the highest level of value. When you call Desmond, you talk to someone at Desmond.
Since its inception, A.J. Desmond & Sons has served families with dignity and compassion, providing the highest standard of care. It first opened on Woodward Avenue in Highland Park, when Angus J. McInnes founded the A.J. McInnes Funeral Home. Albert J. Desmond joined McInnes in 1930, and he and Angus Jr. (Stuffy) took over management of the firm upon Angus’ death. The business then became known as McInnes-Desmond Funeral Directors. The next generation of Desmonds entered funeral service when two of Albert's sons, Terence and John, joined McInnes-Desmond in the 1960s. Since 1990, Terry's daughter, Kathy, has been with the firm, becoming a third-generation family funeral director. In 2008, Terry's son Kevin joined the family business and became licensed. Through the years, several other Desmond family members have been involved; today, Margaret Desmond and Eileen Desmond contribute much to the firm.
A.J. Desmond & Sons is also a leader in offering assistance to families who wish to make arrangements prior to the need for a funeral. Experienced counselor and funeral director Suzanne Seitz Behan, a certified preplanning consultant, and Chris Battersby currently coordinate the firm's pre-need programs. Advance planning doesn’t require advance payment, but Desmond offers a selection of trust and insurance programs for those who choose to do so.
