The Detroit Theatre District Business Association and Detroit 300 Conservancy hosted the fourth annual Grand Circus Gala on June 14. Guests enjoyed cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres, and live music by Ben Sharkey at Grand Circus Park before attending an after party at the David Whitney Building’s WXYZ Bar, which included cocktails, light fare from Vertical, and entertainment by Nicole New. Proceeds benefitted the park.
The Detroit Police Department Leadership Academy graduated its first cohort on Friday, June 8. The graduates earned their graduate certificates in business through the Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University. Graduates and guests enjoyed a buffet brunch before the ceremony. Both were held at Wayne State’s McGregor Memorial Conference Center.
On May 18, more than 100 people attended the Eisenhower Dance Detroit Gala at the Garden Theatre in Midtown. The evening included a cocktail reception, a sit-down dinner, silent and live auctions, and dance performances.
On June 4, the Consul of Italy held a reception on the roof deck at Music Hall Center for Performing Arts in downtown Detroit to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Republic of Italy. More than 150 guests enjoyed a cocktail reception, food stations operated by area restaurants, an awards presentation, and live entertainment.
The Entrepreneurs’ Organization Detroit hosted its Summer Social and EO Detroit Master’s Program graduation on May 31 at a rooftop party at the Detroit Athletic Club. Members and their guests enjoyed cocktails, appetizers, and a light dinner. The organization thanked 2017-2018 president Matt Wolf and welcomed 2018-2019 president Kristen Tassielli.
On June 7, more than 1,300 people attended the 2018 Cars and Cigars Smoke Detroit fundraiser at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights. The event, which included dozens of classic, muscle, and luxury cars, a charity auction, and live entertainment, raised $1.2 million for several charities, including Gleaners, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Forgotten Harvest.
On May 31, Kirco, a multi-faceted real estate development firm in Troy, held its third annual Broker Appreciation Party at Bistro 82 in downtown Royal Oak. More than 70 guests enjoyed cocktails, appetizers, and networking.
The Movement Music Festival hosted its pre-party on May 25 in the Apparatus Room of the Detroit Foundation Hotel. The evening included a cocktail mixer and featured DJs Jason Shelton, Trevor Lamont, and Raul Rodriguez. The festival was held May 26-28 in Detroit’s Hart Plaza.
On May 1, more than 70 people attended a dinner at a private residence in Oakland County where Detroit-based LGC Global founder and CEO Avinash Rachmale gifted $1 million to Wayne State University’s College of Engineering. The funds will be used to establish an endowment to provide full tuition scholarships to Detroit Public Schools Community District students.
Matick Auto Wash in Redford Township hosted the first Motor City Wheels for Meals fundraiser on May 21. All proceeds went to buy meals for seniors facing food insecurity. Detroit Mayor Michael Duggan and Wayne County Executive Warren Evans co-sponsored the event. The more than 800 Wheels on Meals volunteers enjoyed a recognition luncheon before the fundraiser.
Matrix Human Services in Detroit hosted its Matrix Mission 2018 Fundraising Breakfast on May 15 at the Detroit Athletic Club. About 250 community and business leaders enjoyed coffee, networking, and a program of stories highlighting the mission of Matrix Human Services. The organization advocates for and serves the most vulnerable in metro Detroit.
The Detroit Opera House hosted BravoBravo! 2018 on June 1, a black-tie fundraising event that brought some 2,000 guests to the opera house. The evening included three floors of music, dancing, and refreshments from local vendors. Decorations matched the event’s theme, “We Are Storytellers,” and guests enjoyed an after party on the 3Fifty Terrace.
