Tough Enough to be a Girl Scout Breakfast

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan hosted its inaugural Tough Enough Breakfast on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center in Detroit. The event honored four women and one man who are leaders in the business community and whose values and ideals align with Girl Scouts’ mission. More than 160 attendees enjoyed breakfast and networking. The event raised more than $40,000 that will go toward programming and leadership development for older girls.

Michigan Opera Theatre 2018 Opening Gala Concert

On Sept. 29, Michigan Opera Theatre opened its 2018-19 season with a black tie gala concert featuring opera star Renee Fleming and a special performance by the Joffrey Ballet. The event at the Detroit Opera House included a cocktail reception, a sponsor dinner, a young professionals party, and an afterglow.

Variety Feeds Kids at West Bloomfield Township’s Pine Lake Country Club

Variety-the Children’s Charity of Detroit hosted its Variety Feeds Kids Luncheon on Sept. 27 at Pine Lake Country Club in West Bloomfield Township. Guests enjoyed lunch, a presentation, and a book signing opportunity by Steve Pemberton, author of A Chance in the World. Variety Feeds Kids provides food to 1,200 children in the Pontiac Public School District who are at risk of weekend hunger.

Detroit Goodfellows Tribute Breakfast XXIX

The Detroit Goodfellows and WJR Radio hosted the Detroit Goodfellows Tribute Breakfast XXIX on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Detroit’s Cobo Center. The breakfast honored Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. The Detroit Goodfellows was founded in 1914 and plans to give 33,000 area children holiday gift boxes this year. The organization also runs shoe and dental programs, camperships, and scholarships.

National Black MBA Association Executive Reception in Detroit

The National Black MBA Association Executive Reception took place on Monday, Sept. 24 at the Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University in Detroit. The theme of the evening was “Welcome to Detroit: America’s Great Comeback City,” and the reception kicked off the 40th annual National Black MBA Association Conference and Exposition, which was held this year from Sept. 25-29 at Cobo Center.

Fifth Annual Hispanic Heritage Collaborative Event in Detroit

The Association of Latino Professionals for America Michigan presented the Fifth Annual Hispanic Heritage Collaborative Event on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at DTE Energy's headquarters in Detroit. The evening included networking, a strolling dinner, and a program featuring Oz Sanchez, American Paralympic handcyclist, triathlete, and public speaker.

Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs Fundraiser 2018

The AUSA Arsenal of Democracy Chapter, Women in Defense-Michigan, and NDIA Michigan hosted Celebrate Michigan’s Military on Saturday, Sept. 22 at DC3S in Sterling Heights. The event, which included a Passing of the Leash Ceremony, raised funds for Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs. The organization pairs Michigan veterans with individually trained medical service dogs.

Lebanese American Chamber of Commerce’s An Autumn Affair

The Lebanese American Chamber of Commerce hosted An Autumn Affair on Monday, Sept. 17 at the Detroit Athletic Club. U.S. Ambassador Sam Zakhem was in attendance, and the event greeted Timothy Slater, the new chief of the FBI’s Detroit office.

Meadow Brook Hall Gourmet Wild Game Dinner and Auction

Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester Hills hosted its Gourmet Wild Game Dinner and Auction on Sept. 20. Guests enjoyed a full bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, tours of the hall, silent and live auctions, dinner, a raffle, and a 52-card game. Proceeds benefited Meadow Brook Hall.

2018 Distinguished Grand Jester Reception

The Distinguished Clown Corps, part of The Parade Co. in Detroit, held its 2018 Distinguished Grand Jester Reception on Sept. 18 at The Reserve in Birmingham. The annual event raises funds for America’s Thanksgiving Parade Presented by Art Van, which will be held on Nov. 22 along Woodward Avenue from Midtown to downtown Detroit.

American Cancer Society’s 2018 Cattle Baron’s Ball

The American Cancer Society hosted its 2018 Cattle Baron’s Ball on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. More than $880,000 was raised as guests enjoyed a strolling dinner and desserts, a silent auction, live music, mechanical bull riding and other southwestern-inspired fun, and an afterglow. The American Cancer Society funds and conducts cancer research, shares information, and supports cancer patients.

DBusiness Top Lawyers Party

DBusiness Magazine hosted its Top Lawyers party on Monday, Sept. 17 at Eddie Merlot’s Prime Aged Beef and Seafood in Bloomfield Hills. The evening included cocktails, appetizers, and entertainment. The event honors the 2019 Top Lawyers selected through an annual peer review survey.
